Tekena Kenyah - Folk tales (Article in English)

Posted by Kenyah Lepo Tau, Sarawak (Borneo) on November 8, 2009 at 7:25 AM

Folktales from the Kenyah tribe. All this time, i thought the Kenyah's folktales was an adaptation from the Malay folktales. I was half wrong!

Give me sometimes to organize this meeting. I will try my best to gather a few of those with the same interest to meet up with you..

It would be great if these Kenyah folktales could be translated into English and published. if someone or a group of people could get together to do the translation into English I would be more than happy to edit the English translation and make arrangements for a compilation to be compiled and published for public consumption.

So far, I have only unearthed one very good collection of kenyah folk tales, On the Banks of th Baram by Bishop Galvin publsihed privately by the Catholic Diocese in 1971. If we publish another it would be only the second collection of Kenyah folktales in English and that would help spread Kenyah culture worlwide now that we have the Internet.

Any volunteers? I am excited by the prospects of the project.

Anyone interested pls contact me at my email: patrickpsyeoh@gmail.com or call o12-8968138.

I look forward to hearing from some of you. Come and let's make this a worthwhile cultural project for the Kenyah.
